AI for Youth Canada

🌎 Empowering Young Minds to Build a Sustainable Future with AI.

AI for Youth Canada is a national initiative inspired by the United Nations’ AI for Good movement and aligned with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Our mission is to make artificial intelligence education accessible, responsible, and impactful for every young person in Canada.

We help students not only understand how AI works, but also discover how AI can be used for good — to solve real-world challenges in health, education, sustainability, and social equity.

🎓 A Collaborative Learning Community

Founded in Toronto, AI for Youth Canada is supported by the educational ecosystem of the University of Toronto, in collaboration with professors and researchers from McMaster University, the University of British Columbia (UBC), McGill University, and the University of Waterloo.

Together, we are building a cross-disciplinary AI learning community where high school students explore cutting-edge technologies, engage in meaningful research, and develop ethical leadership in the age of AI.

🎯 Our Target Audience — Students and Teachers

AI for Youth Canada follows a dual-track learning model that supports both students and teachers, ensuring that the benefits of AI education reach classrooms nationwide.

For students, the program helps middle and high school learners build strong foundations in programming and AI while nurturing digital literacy, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

For teachers, AI for Youth Canada provides professional development and training to bridge the skills gap in AI and digital education. By equipping educators with the right tools, knowledge, and confidence, we empower them to guide the next generation of innovators.

This dual focus — empowering both youth and educators — is key to building a sustainable, high-quality AI education ecosystem in Canada.

📘 Our Approach to AI Education

AI for Youth Canada offers structured, modular learning materials that empower students and teachers to explore AI at multiple levels — from beginner to intermediate.
Our curriculum features step-by-step coding exercises, interactive AI toolkits, and project templates that encourage students to design their own AI-based solutions.
This modular approach makes AI learning standardized, scalable, and inclusive, ensuring accessibility for learners from diverse schools and educational backgrounds across Canada and beyond.

👩‍🏫 Teacher Training and Certification

To ensure long-term program sustainability, AI for Youth Canada invests in teacher and mentor development.
We provide professional training in AI fundamentals, Python programming, and design thinking, enabling educators to confidently lead AI classrooms and research-based learning.
Qualified participants receive an AI for Youth Coach Certificate, recognizing their ability to deliver effective AI education and mentor youth innovators.
This certification network ensures teaching quality, consistency, and the growth of a nationwide AI educator community.

🚀 Real-World Projects and Showcases

Learning at AI for Youth Canada goes far beyond the classroom. Students collaborate to create real-world AI solutions that address meaningful social challenges — from healthcare and rehabilitation to environmental sustainability and accessibility.
Through competitions, showcases, and awards, participants are encouraged to apply their knowledge creatively, share their work with peers, and continue advancing in research and innovation.
By celebrating their achievements publicly, we inspire youth to see themselves as creators, innovators, and changemakers using AI for good.

🌱 Our Vision

To empower the next generation of Canadian innovators, thinkers, and changemakers, using AI as a force for sustainability, inclusion, and positive global impact.
